Dr. Cox’s love for mission work began with his participation in the Institute for Latin America Concern(ILAC) program while studying dentistry at Creighton University. During his junior year, he was one of 8 students selected to travel to the mountains of the Dominican Republic and establish Emergency dental clinics in the jungle for several villages. He spent the entire summer providing oral surgery services for Dominican and Haitian people. They had no running water, no electricity, and no solid shelter. Their “clinic” consisted of a canopy created from a large sheet tied to several trees and a few simple folding chairs. Many patients walked for days in order to see a doctor and often presented mangos picked along the way as a form of payment.
